Department of Tourism Bursary 2026

The Department of Tourism is offering bursary opportunities to South African students studying towards a Diploma, Degree, Honours, MSc, MTech or Master’s qualification in approved fields for the 2026 academic year. The bursary is aimed at supporting students in priority areas that contribute to economic development, tourism growth, governance and innovation in South Africa.

Duration of the Bursary

The bursary will be awarded for the remainder of the approved study period and will be renewed annually, subject to satisfactory academic performance.

Successful candidates will be required to enter into a formal contractual agreement with the Department of Tourism.

The bursary is available to students studying in the following fields:

  • Construction Management

  • Digital Transformation

  • Business Analytics

  • Graphic Design / Communications / Strategic Design

  • Computer Science / Information Technology / Software Development

  • Law

  • Data Sciences / Data Analytics

  • Development Studies

  • Economics

  • Facility Management / Property Management and Development

  • Forensic Auditing / Internal Auditing / Information Systems Auditing

  • Humanities (Social Sciences)

  • Information and Knowledge Management

  • Industrial / Organisational Psychology

  • Management Services / Operations Management / Work Study / Organisational Development

  • Risk Management

  • Statistics

Applicants must ensure their qualification aligns with one of the listed fields.

Who Should Apply?

The bursary is open to South African students who:

  • Are registered or accepted at a recognised institution

  • Are studying within the approved fields

  • Require financial assistance

  • Are able to meet academic progression requirements

Required Documents

Applicants must submit a fully completed bursary application form together with:

  • Certified copy of South African Identity Document

  • Certified copies of academic certificates

  • Academic transcripts

  • Proof of registration at a recognized institution

  • Proof of parents’ or guardian’s income

  • A motivational letter
