What is SSG Holdings?
SSG Holdings is a Centurion-based integrated services group operating across South Africa. Most people know it for its security arm, but the group runs four divisions: SSG Security (its biggest), SSG Facilities, SSG Cleaning, and its own accredited SSG Training Academy. Because SSG wins contracts at mines, shopping centres, warehouses, office parks and events nationwide, it recruits continuously — every new contract means new posts in that area.
What jobs does SSG hire for?
Security division:
| Post | What you’d do |
|---|---|
| Security Officer / Guard (Grade E–A) | Site guarding at retail, commercial, warehouse and residential sites |
| Reaction Officer (Grade B/C) | Armed response — attending alarms and incidents |
| Mining Security Officer | Access control and asset protection on mine sites |
| Retail Security Officer | In-store loss prevention and visible policing |
| Control Room Operator | CCTV, alarm and fleet-tracking monitoring |
| K9 Handler | Patrol and detection dog units |
| VIP Protection Officer | Close protection (advanced grades + experience) |
| Investigator | Theft, fraud and incident investigations |
| Technical Installer | Alarms, CCTV and access control systems |
| Event Security | Stadiums, concerts, functions |
| Aviation & Drone Operator | SSG’s specialist aerial unit |
| Supervisors & Ops Managers | Running sites, shifts and regions |
Cleaning division: cleaners, hygiene staff, team leaders, contract managers.
Facilities division: maintenance workers, handymen, facilities coordinators and managers.
Head office: admin, HR, payroll, finance and fleet posts in Centurion and regional offices.
What do I need to qualify for a security post?
Five things gate security hiring, and the first one is the big one:
- PSIRA registration at the grade the post needs — Grade E/D for entry guarding, Grade C for most sites, Grade B for armed reaction, Grade A for supervision. No PSIRA yet? You must first complete accredited training (SSG’s own academy offers it).
- A clear criminal record — fingerprints are checked, no exceptions in this industry.
- Valid South African ID.
- Shift fitness — 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends and public holidays are standard.
- Post-specific extras — firearm competency and a driver’s licence for reaction officers; handler certificates for K9; Matric for control room and supervisory posts.
And for cleaning or facilities posts?
Much simpler: SA ID, Grade 10 or higher, reliability and shift availability. Experience in contract cleaning or maintenance helps but isn’t required.
Which documents should I have ready?
- Updated CV (PDF) — security applicants: put your PSIRA grade and number in the first lines
- Certified ID copy
- Certified PSIRA certificate (security posts)
- Firearm competency certificate (armed posts)
- Driver’s licence (reaction/driving posts)
- Matric certificate or school results
- Reference letters from previous employers
How do I actually apply?
The official route — 5 steps, 10 minutes:
- Open ssgsa.co.za/careers
- Fill in your name, surname, email and cell number
- Pick the right division — Security, Facilities or Cleaning (a security CV sent to the cleaning division goes nowhere)
- Upload your CV (PDF, under 20MB) and add a short message: the post you want, your PSIRA grade, your area
- Click Send — your CV enters SSG’s recruitment database, and recruiters contact matching candidates as contracts open
Back it up with: job alerts for “SSG” on Indeed, PNet and Careers24, where site-specific posts (especially reaction officer roles) are advertised when contracts start — and an enquiry at any site SSG guards near you, to learn how that region recruits.
What happens after I apply?
Security recruitment is verification-first: PSIRA status check, criminal record and fingerprints, references, and firearm competency confirmation for armed posts. Then interviews, possible fitness or site assessments, and placement on a contract site — often with top-up training at SSG’s academy. Cleaning and facilities posts move faster: interview, references, placement.
How do I stand out?
- Keep your PSIRA registration active and paid up — a lapsed registration is the industry’s most common disqualifier.
- Upgrade your grade (E→D→C→B): each step unlocks better-paying posts, and Grade B plus firearm competency opens reaction work.
- Be explicit about your area and 24/7 shift availability — guarding contracts are local and round-the-clock.
- List the sectors you’ve guarded (mining, retail, warehousing) — SSG recruits per contract type.
Is it free to apply? (Scam check)
Yes — and SSG says so itself: its official site warns that career communications from SSG never ask for monetary transactions. The security industry is flooded with fake Facebook and WhatsApp recruiters charging “registration”, “training deposit” or “uniform” fees. The only real SSG application is the free form at ssgsa.co.za/careers. Anyone asking for money in SSG’s name is a fraudster — and so are unofficial “SSG application portal” websites.
The bottom line
SSG Holdings hires across security (guards to drone operators), cleaning, facilities and office support nationwide. For security work, PSIRA at the right grade plus a clean record get you in the door; for cleaning and facilities, Grade 10 and reliability are enough. Apply free on the official careers form, state your PSIRA details upfront, set your job-board alerts, and keep your registration current.
